Straight From Our Staff

  1. What is your favorite thing about working at Lutz & Company?

At Lutz I feel welcomed every day and know that I am working with people who are willing to help me reach my goals. – Tax staff

I enjoy and appreciate the people I work with and the “Lutz Culture.”  The Lutz culture is unique because all employees are willing to help each other (from staff to partner) and treat each other professionally. The mentality at Lutz is “work hard and play hard. – Audit staff

  1. How do you view the leadership here?

I think it is AWESOME!! I feel comfortable walking into any office in the building—at any time—to ask questions or get feedback on a project. – Tax staff

All partners/managers have great leadership skills and put forth the effort to increase your professional skills.  The management team is always available and willing to help with any questions. – Audit staff

  1. How does the “real” public accounting world compare to what you learned in college?

What I learned in college is definitely used on a daily basis in the real world (i.e., debits/credits, Balance Sheet presentation, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement, etc). However, out in the real world you will come across unique accounting issues on a daily basis. To me, this is what makes accounting interesting; you are always learning something new as different issues keep popping up. – Audit staff

The basic rules you learn are the same, however in the real world, the problems are not always given to you with all the details nicely arranged. It can be a challenge to track down the actual information you need and the answers are definitely not as clear cut as I remember homework problems being. I remember college accounting being very black and white, but in the real world you deal with shades of gray most of the time. – Tax staff

  1. How do you view your potential for long-term growth at Lutz & Co?

With the great leadership and continuous learning opportunities provided, I can see myself advance up through the in-charge level to manager and ultimately partner. Someday I can stand behind the Lutz & Company name. – Audit staff

Lutz is different from other places I know because promotions are made when you show that you are ready for the next level. When you are ready and have proven yourself, you are promoted. This creates more of a team atmosphere because you are not competing with your co-workers for promotions. – Tax staff

At Lutz & Company, we pride ourselves on open communication. We hope you will ask us any questions that you have and we encourage you to do the same with the other firms that you are considering. Here are a few questions to get the ball rolling…

  1. How many hours am I expected to work?
  2. How much travel is involved?
  3. How will the firm support me in my efforts to pass the CPA exam?
  4. What is your retention rate? Why do people stick around?
  5. What are the possible career tracks within your organization?
  6. What are your opportunities for ongoing training and development?
  7. What is the feedback process like?
